Fuelvac® in Above Ground Storage Tanks
Simon Storage Case StudyProject Description
Abfad Ltd was approached by Simon Storage in late 2010 with the request for a presentation on the Fuelvac® double skin tank lining system.
The interest from Simon Storage was based on the possible installation of two systems in different size tanks. The tanks concerned were not leaking and the installations were pre-emptive.
A secondary consideration for Simon Storage was the reduction of inspection and maintenance of internal steel plates due to bacteria corrosion and therefore the downtime of the tank as a storage facility.
With the completely monitored Fuelvac® system installed in June / July 2011 any leak or malfunction of the tank would be identified and adequate action can be taken. Both storage tanks are vacuum leak detection monitored 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
An inspection of the tanks is not envisaged within the next 15 years due to Fuelvac® installation. If, however, a weld seam inspection has to be done, the system is easily removed from the areas where an inspection is needed and more importantly reinstalled with no difficulty.
The Fuelvac® systems have been installed mid 2011 and operating successfully with one tank holding up to 750,000 litres and the larger tank over 2,000,000 litres of fuel.
